Auditions

Well, it seems like we're auditioning for the men's roles. When we did the reading last November, it was with seven of my friends. Four women, three men and me in the roles.

Director DJ Sullivan and I discussed the full production and thought we'd have a better show if we opened up the male roles to other actors. This was a tough decision as I was one of the male actors but I really want to work on the production from somewhere other than on stage.

So! We're having auditions on December 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We're looking for four roles...

Richard
Lead, successful divorce lawyer who fears love, lives with Veronica 30s-40s. Richard is basically myself; fraid of love because he was never taught how to do it. He has a lot of great lines and gets to come full circle in both acts. He very nearly carries the show but has help.

Mark
A police officer who writes love songs, engaged to Maria but ends up with Luke, 20s-30s.

Luke
A fairly well known, good-looking actor, lives with Kate, ends up with Mark 20s-40s.

Mark and Luke are the engenues in the play. The true lovers whereas everyone else is trying and failing. They live lies long enough and decide to go for true love over the false stuff. These are small but powerful, pivotal roles. They should good looking and manly.

John
A contracts attorney, was married to Veronica and now to Ann, ends up with Kate 30s-50s. His is the role of a two-time looser who tries a third time with another two-time loser, Kate. Has a great role and gets to feel a lot of emotions. I will play this role in the film (haha).

These actors can be any ethnicity as long as they are good! Know someone? Have them e-mail six.kevin@yahoo.com. They can research the roles here and/or ask me for a script.

Thanks!

Love Negotiated's History by Kevin Six

Love Negotiated began life as The L Word but of course that is the name of a popular TV show.
2005: The L Word is written in two October days (I have been re-writing ever since). It began as a post-modern Noises Off with the idea of showing the activities in the dressing and green rooms on a screen over the proscenium and having the technician's headset conversations broadcast on speakers in the house. That lasted exactly five minutes as I decided I needed to write a play first.

2006: The L Word is submitted to the Bay Area Playwright's Festival and the Hinton Battle Theatre Laboratory's Diverse Voices Playwriting Contest. HBTL wrote back in May, "This year we received three times as many entries as last year and were very impressed with the overall quality of the works. Your play stood out as one of the best entries and has been chosen as a finalist for this year's competition." One for two!

The L Word had it's New York reading on June 19th, with a New York casting director, great actors (including Warren Kelly as Richard ) and my great San Diego friend Kymri Wilt. I went for the reading and surfed New Jersey for the first time. See the Flier. See a photo.

The winner of the competition was announced at the New York premiere of Idlewild, which was choreographed by Hinton Battle, on August 21st. I met lots of stars, including Andree 3000, had a great time but didn't win. Boo Hoo.

2007: The L Word becomes Love Negotiated.
Love Negotiated is copywrighted on February 5, 2007.

Aspire Playwrights does a staged reading of Love Negotiated on November 19th. The play, directed by Patricia Elmore Costa, has a great response and plans begin to produce it in San Diego. Here's a slideshow featuring photos of the performance and the party after.

Several submissions meet with nothing but in the meantime, I write other plays and have one published.

2008: Swedenborg Hall announces Kevin Six as Playwright in Residence, read the Press Release here, which means that Love Negotiated will be produced in 2009.

Welcome to the Love Negotiated Blog

Well. Here it is. The Love Negotiated Blog. On these very pages, you will witness the whole process of producing Love Negotiated, the play by Kevin Six. The play has had two readings and placed in a contest but now it will be produced with all the bells and whistles. You, the reader, will get to read all about the production from casting notes, to notes from the cast. I'll put up plenty of photos and videos and give you every opportunity to join in the fun too.

I'm looking forward to it!
